COUTURE 2013
SUPPER THEATRE ‐ CURTAIN AT 9
9th NOVEMBER, 2013

Suneet Varma recently celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Judith Leiber Couture and his collaboration with the iconic brand at his couture show 2013.

This season Suneet took inspiration from his love for movies, music and old world glamour. The bygone era of the iconic Bollywood actresses of the 70's - Mumtaz, Sharmila Tagore and Asha Parekh - the beautiful women who ruled every Indians heart with their seductive style and lit up the silver screen!

Shaded and tie-dyed wispy chiffons with delicate badla embroidery, sheer tulle sarees with printed jacquard blouses, draped skirts with halter blouses in oranges and fuchsia pinks and short kurtis with salwars in ivory silk with Gold khari.

Suneet has always loved the languid luxurious style of the cinematic splendor of the 70s - the long, floor length sharara's with zardozi embroidery worn with short kurtis in parsi ghara thread work with woven tanchoi stoles.

The Persian blue and maroon line has flared trousers with short crop flirty tops, the appliqué sarees with beaded borders and backless blouses with Swarovski crystal tassels. The black and white line is in tulle, georgette and silk organza, its light, with a sprinkling of diamond like crystals. Short swingy coats with long tiered skirts, off shoulder silhouettes with belted details.

Suneet Varma has been associated with Judith Leiber as the only international designer since the past 3 years and has found an interesting niche market to fill in. The Suneet Varma for Judith Leiber minaudières have been very successful and are sold very well all over the world, including India. The bags got picked up by international celebrities including the A list Hollywood actress for several red carpet appearances.

Judith Leiber Couture is a 50-year-old American luxury brand that has re-defined the accessories category with products that are on the cutting-edge of high fashion, while always remaining timeless. In addition to designing beautiful handbags and minaudières, the company also designs and produces exquisite Eyewear. The brand is the toast of the red carpet all over the world along with being a favorite accoutrement on fashion runways. The First Lady dating back to 1953 has carried custom-made bags to the U.S. Presidential Inauguration ceremonies. Leiber handbags are part of the permanent design collections at The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Smithsonian Institute amongst others.

The Judith Leiber Lounge showcased their 50 year archive of some of the most loved and inspirational bags. The evening also marked the unveiling of the 50th Anniversary bag designed by Suneet Varma.

"Collaborations with Suneet are always fun experience for both of us. Suneet brings in his love of history, rich decorative elements found in India, as well has a deep understanding of what his client loves and responds to. I gravitate to clean lines, simplicity, and functionality that resonate with New Yorkers. Together, we are able to design contemporary pieces that nod to the legacy of the Judith Leiber brand while drawing from the opulent influence of Suneet's artistry", says Jana Matheson, Creative Director, Judith Leiber.

"We are delighted to be working with Suneet Varma again, and tap into the Indian market through filter of his design aesthetic. The collaboration of our two brands creates the perfect synergy", says Jana Matheson, Creative Director, Judith Leiber.
