Its origins can be traced back to the heyday of the Vijayanagar Empire, when a group of merchants trading in precious gemstones are said to have migrated from Ganjam on the East coast of Orissa. After settling in Bangalore in 1889, Ganjam Nagappa was appointed jeweler to The Maharaja of Mysore.
